What is the deal with the foolish policies of government with regard to food and farmers? Check this. And this. This bill (HR 875) would basically do away with farmers markets and stands as well as giving the government more control over small farms by tracking all animals. Not ONLY THAT… they are also looking to criminalize seed banking! That is ludicrous. Saving seeds by everyone should be encouraged. Especially now in the face of food shortages the art of saving seeds is needed most. I remember my grandpa having excellent seeds saved from past yields from his garden… and this is what Monsanto wants to criminalize and keep farms from doing so that they can control all food production, crops, and animals.

Just in case you were wondering how to ripen an avocado faster:

If your avocados need ripening you can place them in a paper bag that will trap the ethylene gas they produce and speed up the ripening process. You can add a tomato, apple, or banana which will speed up the process even more. Avocados turn darker and start to get soft (not too soft). Also if the pit rattles or moves when you shake it… then it is overripe and you are a sucker for buying it. I have been a sucker before.¬†

Just in case you were wondering.

This is the best jelly that I have ever had. Especially the apricot and the wild blueberry. Why am I writing about this…. cause it is that good. Of course it is from Italy… of course. Go buy some and see for yourself, unless of course you have absolutely no palate and they all taste the same to you… in that case disregard this recommendation and go on about your ignorant ways. And at this very moment I tell my brother to take advantage of the food stores that he has access to… at least for the rest of this week… including some Fior Di Frutta jelly imported by Rigoni Di Asiago.
